Actress. The sister of Oscar-winning actress Hattie McDaniel, she played uncredited bits, usually as maids and mammies, in 58 films. 

Perhaps her most memorable moment is in "King Kong" (1933), as the native woman with the coconut bra who snatches her baby away from the rampaging ape. 

Her other credits include "The Green Pastures" (1936), "The Devil Is a Sissy" (1936), "Stella Dallas" (1937), "Sergeant Madden" (1939), "Son of Dracula" (1943), and "The Thin Man Goes Home" (1945). 

McDaniel was born in Witchita, Kansas. She made her performing debut with her seven siblings as a member of H. M. Johnson's Mighty Modern Minstrels, a Denver-based vaudeville troupe.

News and Tips Brutha Smith wins Best Emcee at 2015 SAMMIES I'm not sure how much this news has spread (yet) but a few weeks ago I officially became the Chief Marketing Officer for Unlimited Sounds Publishing & Distribution, LLC based in Sacramento, California. Moving forward, several artists we represent in the Sacramento music community were nominated for awards but Brutha Smith walked away with the SAMMIE for Best Emcee 2015. I want to congratulate him as well as turn you onto his music. This week in the music business world it was reported Beats Music has proven it currently trumps Spotify in artist payouts. With that said, I have yet to see any income from Beats Music. The majority of my music income has been coming and still is coming from Spotify (#1) and YouTube (#2). While I'm on the topic of Spotify, I'd like to indulge you with my thoughts...assuming you don't mind ;) Musicians as well as the music media have been and continue to be very critical of Spotify and it's payouts (or lack of) to artists. Sharky Laguana's article"The real reason the Spotify model is broken" adds some interesting perspective to the Spotify discussion but after speaking with some colleagues I'm not so sure Sharky is 100% correct in this analysis of how Spotify's pool of payout money currently works. Spotify is a huge corporate company but at the same time they are NOT making any profits...yet. They are still in the beginning stages of their maturity as a streaming subscription service... With that said, I expect their payout rates to artists to continue changing and hopefully increasing as time moves forward. The next time you see a headline or an article bashing Spotify for only paying out $100,000 for 1 million streams of Pharrell's single "Happy"; I want you to remember that Pharell (or whoever it might be) is still receiving a fat ass check from BMI, ASCAP, or SESAC for those 1 million streams. Spotify pays their fees to the PROs just like every other buisness operating in the music space. They also pay mechanical royalties to Harry Fox Agency so these artists are also receiving fat Harry Fox checks for those million streams on Spotify. Things aren't always as they seem.
