SDC Digital Radio's Top 50 List for Indie Artists Runs Long with a Special Thank you to Barbara Perez of Rosamond California

WEST SACRAMENTO CA (IFS) -- In 2015, SDC Radio Networks and its parent company, SDC OmniMedia Group, began the year fighting off lawsuits and the last show of the year was placed in "moth balls" with Artista Records, naming Spotify and SDC Digital Radio Networks as the most wanted radio outlaws and we were in their path.  Because of all the press, SDC Digital Radio audience doubled its listeners worldwide.

It has to be the hardest of all times, when artists that would like for you to play their music could not use the "download" button to let the radio stations use their music.  The only other way was when SDC Radio established the policy of having each artist send a copy of their release through the US Mail system, which will verify that these artists wanted SDC Digital Radio to play their music.

It all started with what you hear on the radio station locally  is just what is playing across the United States, as Barbara Perez (of Rosamond California),  began to explain to this writer, that the music charts are very different all across the United States.

It was during those days when AM Radio controlled the airwaves and FM Radio Stations were just getting started. The giants of Southern California Radio in those days, included KRLA out of Pasadena, KHJ and KGFJ and late night out of state radio like Oklahoma City's KOMO, and the real killer of them all, Monterey Mexico's XERB with Wolfman Jack.  Alternative bands like Frank Zappa and the Mothers Of Invention, Ruben and the Jets, Alice Cooper, the Others, Al Cooper, Shuggie Otis and other local Los Angeles bands were selling albums and not getting any AM Radio play at all.

We got things like "American Top 40" with Casey Kasam.

In Los Angeles County, recording artists like Hannibal and the Headhunters, Tierra, Captain Beefheart, Merrell and the Exiles could sell 100,000 - 45RPM Singles without even leaving the county or the state.

The Mamas & the Papas"Monday, Monday" was the Number One record on the charts with the Monkees very close behind on this particular weekend before school was going to be out.

With the Texas trip with the family just one year early, I did manage to tie it all together.  In every little town, for over two thousand miles, it was just the same top forty records that we listened too.  This was a major shift in the record business in those days, as the British Music Invasion continued day after day, month after month, year after year forever.

Our small library did not subscribe to Billboard Magazine, Cash Box Magazine, Juke Box Magazine, or even Bill Gavin.  During those days, if you landed on Bill Gavin's playlist, you just hit a home run.  I have only been on the list one time with Merrell Fankhauser's "Tomorrow's Girl" with Barry White on drums that landed in the top 10 on American Bandstand with Dick Clark.

It was Perez earlier in the Seventh Grade that turned my head about "listening" to music, as our English teacher put on a piece by Vivaldi and asked the students, including me to write about what the music was speaking to each one of us.  I swear it, Barbara wrote over two pages on both sides of the paper.  I on the other hand just managed to get one paragraph out of the music.

One thing this writer remembers is that Peter Paul and Mary's "Puff The Magic Dragon" did not play much in Falls County Texas, City of Marlin in 1966.  But Percy Sledge did alot, along with BB King, Bobby Blue Bland, KoKo Taylor, Ernestine Anderson and Lee Rogers among many artists of those days.

With my first years in radio, one of my jobs along with John Orr of the Marauder Times, was to compile the best songs that all of the kids in our local high schools and college was listening too.  It was nothing like the radio.  Nowhere close to it, except for KPFK-FM in Los Angeles who was playing all this stuff from the underground artists of the day.

Early songs were like The Velvetones, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, James Brown, Steppenwolf, Captain Beefheart, The Doors and HMS Bounty in Lancaster California in those days.  So now you know who was on our first lists top 50 songs of Music Artists in those days. - KHS

Niki "SheTraxxx" Fellowz

A Southern girl, who grew up in NC, Niki played piano as a child, and began writing her music before age 13. She explains, “I started making up songs on long road trips, and it took my interest in music to another level. I would have my little sister singing back up. Then I would make up short songs to whatever was playing on the radio. I would make it up, and we would present it to my mom."

Playing keyboard and singing hooks she wrote for her uncle's group, Niki saw their genuinely excited reaction. “Two friends heard the songs, and even though we were all broke, they approached me and pooled their money to buy a microphone and a recording equipment.” Several of the earlier recordings were done in a closet. Now taking herself more seriously, Niki was gathering skill as a songwriter, taking influences, like Mary J. Blige, 702,and her uncle's band, and using them to shape her style. “I grew up with a lot of 70’s late 80ish music,” Niki explains, “My family played old school jams all the time. I naturally gravitate to that kind of sound; there’s a warmth, naturalness and a comfort to it that I’ve always loved.”

As she got older her name grew in and around her hometown, the pieces began to fall into place for her. She studied Music Production at The Art Institute of Atlanta in Atlanta, Ga. She came home and started recording again. Recording continuously, Niki hooked up with local producers Terrence Russell, Pete Miles. The three recorded multiple singles at Scott's studio in Graham, NC. The songs sparked major interest from several local artists.

That recognition allowed Niki to co-produce This Ain't Me, as well a permanent studio home to record in while making it. She reflects, “There was a lot of songs that were made up or finished on the spot. My voice changed a lot in a short period of time, and that was reflected in how I recorded. We recorded more than what I wanted, and not enough at the same time. I spent months on certain songs, trashing what I couldn't get perfect. "

From the opening notes of “My Apologies,” the album’s first single, one hears that combination of melodic irresistibility and lyrical incisiveness that are becoming Miss. Nichole's hallmarks. “ The song is about having a friend that you don't always take the time out to thank. I think that friendship is key in relationship,” Niki notes, “But the mood of it- It's still personal, while celebrating and giving someone the spotlight.”

Niki Fellowz is currently on the road, performing at live shows with her preferred band. “It’s gaining momentum,” Niki says. “With the band, we’re getting exciting - there’s a lot of chemistry there. Being on the road all the time is something I’ve always wanted. It's a status I'm willing to marry. ” And on tour, Niki Fellowz is singing her songs exactly the way she’s always wanted, creating a fully realized dream that is the culmination of where she’s been and where she’s going, and one that is sure to win her the notoriety that is demanded by the depth and quality of her songs.

Band Description
Three-piece band from Alingsås, Sweden Play some melodic mix of 50% Early NWOBHM/ 40% 60's pop/ 10% Psychadelica. Provides a retro sound, dirty but distinct.

Svante Widerström writes 10 songs every year that he wants to record and release. And since his former band Arbogast suffered a slow death in 2014 it was necessary for him to create a new platform from which he could throw his songs into the great nothingness.
Svante's old friend Nanne Westerholm stepped in behind drums and together they released the album “Catching up with the future” in mars 2015 under the name Sundown Delay.
Though satisfied with the result, as a duo they weren't able to play live. To be considered a band they needed at least a bass player. They found the missing piece in Björn Ericsson and recorded the mini LP “Rubik’s Cube is fighting back” which will be released in april 2016.

Record label: No
Release date: april 25th 2016
Distributor: CD Baby

-          NWOBHM meets classic 60's pop and psychedelia
-          Very limited (200 copies) edition on 12"vinyl
-          The best thing from Alingsås since the potato

Alingsås is a shithole of a town. It's hardly brilliant rock bands or musicians that come to mind when the average person hears the name of this small town located about 45 minutes drive north of Gothenburg.
If anything comes to mind at all then it might be the name of the town's most famous son, Jonas Alströmer who takes the credit for introducing the potato to Swedish kitchens. Wow!

Most people with talent and ambition take the first chance they get to escape from Alingsås.
The town can therefore thank it's lucky stars that Svante Widerström, the driving force behind Sundown Delay, and his companions have chosen to stay.
A rare bird you could say, but few others could so tastefully master the art of combining the best of early 80's NWOBHM with melodies and harmonies that would make 60's giants like The Zombies and The Kinks green with envy.
In Alingsås Sundown Delay have been able to develop their repertoire unhindered. Few village dwellers or outsiders have up to now understood what the group are doing. It's high time that more get to hear them now.

On the strictly limited (only 200 copies) 12" vinyl " Rubik's Cube Is Fighting Back" Sundown Delay present six tracks recorded at Svenska grammofonstudion in Gothenburg.
In tracks like "Slaveboy" and "Vote For U.P.P." Sundown Delay combine early hard rock, NWOBHM and psychedelia draped in classic pop harmonies. All this is seemlessly interwoven in the band's own captivating sound.
Sundown Delay are without doubt the most interesting and exciting thing that has happened in Alingsås since Mr. Alströmer came home with a few sacks of potatoes.

Band Description

Crush of Empires’ music is original, current…and loud. This NYC based four piece combines unique vocal melodies, intricate guitar rhythms, and deep aggressive bass and drums creating a unique audio assault upon pressing play.

“Crush of Empires moved the night forward with a clean and progressive sound. Their sound was tight and the band played well together. Overall, they left you feeling glad you had the experience to listen to their emotionally driven tracks” -ROCKUS NEWS CD Release show at Gramercy Theatre

“Crush of Empires, are as epic as their name suggests. They make great use of effects and textures in their music, which makes for a very dynamic set. The lead guitar work is very interesting by both guitarists, both playing with a lot of feel and melody. Overall, the band is enjoyable and brings progressive elements to the show” -Gotham Rocks

"Playing a half-hour set at Arlene's Grocery tonight, Crush of Empires proved to be a promising contender in the local hard rock scene. The quartet performed songs that were rooted in the New York singer-songwriter vein, but then developed through the filter of progressive rock. These songs were not scream-and-boogie metal rock, but rather well-thought-out compositions with sensitive singing, clean and melodic guitar leads, occasionally complex rhythms and grunge like grooves. " -Everynight Charley Crespo

“Strong and capable lead vocals suit the material well and the musical performances and solid, tight and fitting. Crush of Empires have a slight retro grunge feel, but also feature newer elements- cool vibe overall and the grooves and riffs work together well to produce a cohesive whole” -Taxi
A band whose raw emotive power steers far beyond the norm, Crush of Empires is a force to be reckoned with. Marked by their dynamic live performances, hard driving riffs, unique song structures and lyrical sophistication, this four-piece band stands as an anomaly amongst the NYC rock scene.

SDC Digital Radio Networks Pulls Charlie Wilson, Chris Brown and Jazmine Sullivan from Playlists over Disputed Copyrights with Arista Records

WEST SACRAMENTO CA (IFS) -- SDC DIGITAL RADIO NETWORKS, Dunningan, California wasted no time in starting to dismantle all of the Arista Records songs from its playlists, from songs send to SDC Radio by the artists themselves.  Kenneth Howard Smith, CEO/President of SDC OmniMedia Group which is the parent company of Digital Radio Networks and Radio One Networks told us that this fight with Youtube and several other digital services have been pulling music violations on SDC for the past two (2) years over nothing.  It's always the same old fight.  We have an promotions network that we work with, including promoters as Debby Clinton of Platinum Sound Record Productions in Mountain Park, Oklahoma, who handles and submits artists to our venue.

"Its going to be a hard fight.  Many of these artists are friends of mind from the days, when I received hand written CDs and I played them.  No questions asked.  Our music blogs go back to the days of a young Taylor Swift sending us her first CD with Big Machine Records.

"Its times like these that make you really draw the line in the sand and just start kicking up dust and throwing rocks.  The halt on SDC Digital Top 50 Countdown Show was halted by Arista Records who drew the first blood and all bets and gloves are off.. Smith Continued.
