How I'm Promoting My Music This Month
Happy 🦃 Day in advance!

This month I published not one, but two articles:

1. My second and possibly final Spotify PR Spotlight, this time highlighting Midnite Blaster, along with my conclusions on Spotify playlist promotion overall. I'd love to hear what you think, so come at me in the comments!

2. My Promote on SoundCloud Beta Results. You can now promote on SoundCloud, through SoundCloud. Conclusion? Don't waste your money.

This month I made another valiant effort to crack the Facebook Ads code.

I set up a custom conversion using a Feature.fm smart link to track people who not only clicked on my ad, but clicked through to Spotify.

While I'm able to get the cost per click down to a reasonable level, very few people actually click through to Spotify.
Right now I'm showing 3732 clicks to my smart link. Of those, only 329 clicked through to a service, less than 10%. Worse, only 44% of those clicked through to Spotify.

The biggest obstacle, as I described in my post on Facebook ads, is the lack of targeting options for my genre.

The gang at Indepreneur might argue that the #1 problem with my music business is that I'm not putting offers in front of my fans. They did a series of podcasts on preparing for Black Friday, which encouraged me to make a token effort.

I have every intention of becoming an Indepreneur member, but I've been waiting for the Black Friday deal they teased on the podcast. It's already pretty cheap at $37 per month, so I don't know how much lower they can go. Keep an eye out here!

Speaking of training programs, there are still a few $200 off slots available for Fans on Demand Formula (my review) with code "PassivePromoSpecial" (no quotes).

Finally, my Vocal Synthwave Retrowave playlist cracked 1K followers on Spotify. I'm using Soundsgood to synchronize the playlist across multiple services (check it out).

Since I get relatively little action on Apple Music, I signed up for a three-month trial to post my playlist there. I'm pretty sure I did everything right, but it doesn't show up in a search for "synthwave" or "vocal synthwave" — at least for me.

Anyone know why that is?

Until next month, let's hustle. 🕺

Brian.

The smallest Creature

The smallest Creature has been praised for their "modern poetic lyricism, melt worthy, moody vocals" and dreamy and enchanting compositions.

The smallest Creature started off as a solo act for Stefanos Marnerides in New York and evolved into a power trio when Stefanos was joined by former bandmates and friends Stephanos Nicolaou (bass) and Iacovos Stylianides (drums) in Cyprus.

Over various gigs the band gave flesh to a number of songs released in their debut album Million in November 2016, which received outsanding reviews and feedback.

After the release, the band became a classic four-piece group with Pavlos Papadopoulos replacing Nicolaou on the bass and Andreas Mathaiou joining in on lead guitar. Playing various clubs and festivals with excellent impressions they've been producing new material towards a second release.

In reggae, all roads lead to the “Riddim Twins”, Sly & Robbie. They’ve been revered as style-defining icons for years, and together and individually have a massive influence on the genre. They are also renowned for their willingness to shatter boundaries and experiment with sounds. Over the past decades, they have never been shy of leaping over into other genres – for instance, their timeless, super-tight production work for Grace Jones...!

Now, Sly & Robbie meet Dubmatix. The Canadian producer and multi-instrumentalist got his hands on original Sly & Robbie tracks and spent months crafting this new album, Overdubbed. Dubmatix is celebrated for his out-of-the-box thinking and willingness to experiment, and the album shines with fresh ideas.

Sly & Robbie’s tunes, which are originally without vocals, haven’t simply been dubbed: extracting the individual essence of each track, Dubmatix has added a plethora of tweaks, ideas and individuality, making his musical signature clearly audible. On some tracks, he invited vocalists, including Jay Spaker (John Brown's Body), Screechy Dan and Prince Alla, to contribute their unique style. As well as Dubmatix himself, the album features many other musicians.

The result is an album that shines with eclectic diversity. From roots oriented tunes to dubs for the clubs, there’s a bit of everything. Dubmatix’s refreshingly playful, bass-heavy approach creates new highlights while at the same time paying deserved homage to two world-class musicians.

The guest vocalist line up is jam packed including: Prince Alla, Screechy Dan, Megative, Jay Spaker, Treson, Pato Irie, Bill King, Pablo Paul, Shaky, Illorn, Aaron Kazmer and The Heavyweights Brass Band.

All Tracks are written by Robbie Shakespeare, Sly Dunbar, Alberto Blackwood. Publishing: IXAT Music for Sly and Robbie, Jamdown/Abood Music Ltd. – BMI Inc. America for Alberto Blackwood.
