About Clifford Curry
What the 18th Annual Blues Festival Announcement says about Clifford Curry:
"One of the Southeast’s storybook singers, Clifford Curry has a deep history in R&B, blues, gospel, shag and beach music. Born in Knoxville, TN, he first cut for Savoy Records, while still in high school, with his group The Five Pennies – spectacular recordings prized by collectors to this day. He later waxed for Elf, Excello, and other labels, getting airplay on some of Music City’s most powerful radio stations, pushing his music to the Atlantic coast where “beach music” was exploding – he had a whole new audience. In 1967 Clifford had his biggest hit, “She Shot a Hole in My Soul,” a beach music classic still packing dance floors. Now more than ever, this beloved artist is a force to be reckoned with, having won numerous CAMMY Awards (beach music’s “Grammys”) and still on the charts (his latest smash is “Beach Music & BBQ”)."

______________________________________________
Clifford Curry is a true soul survivor, a veteran of more than 45 years in music and still kicking. The Knoxville, TN, native joined the Echos while he still attended Austin High School in Knoxville; they had been around for four years before Curry joined and backed Faye Adams on her number one R&B smash "Shake a Hand." The revamped group cut two records with Savoy Records as the renamed Five Pennies ("Mr. Moon" and "My Heart Trembles" in 1955 and 1956 respectively) and also waxed unreleased sides for Herald Records. The lack of royalties and money caused the group to splinter in different directions. Curry and some other Knoxville cronies formed the Bingos, who cut a deal with Ernie Young's Excello Records. Excello issued the single on its Nasco subsidiary and renamed them the Hollyhocks.

Returning to Knoxville Curry went solo as Sweet Clifford. Revisiting Excello Records, Young recorded four sides on Curry, messing up the first single by crediting "Things Got to Get Better" as Clifford Sweet. He hooked up with some more Knoxville crooners — Luey & Duey Guy, Bob Adams, Jerry Johnson, and Wayne Cronin — to form the Fabulous Six. Curry tried his hand at songwriting (with Knoxville DJ Rob Galbraith) for other.

The association with Galbraith bared fruit in 1967, not with one of their songs, but the Galbraith hookup with Buzz Carson enabled Curry to cut a song Carson held the rights to, entitled "She Shot a Whole in My Soul." Carson produced and issued the record on Elf Records, which was distributed by Bell Records. Seven more Elf singles followed (from 1967 to 1969), along with three each on SSS, Caprice, and Abbott Records spanning 1970 to 1973. Curry's success as an entertainer spread to the Carolina Beaches, where the baritone became a prime showman for their musical events and a solid purveyor of Beach music, which is anything you can shag to and look cool doing it.

The popular Beach entertainer then recorded with Buddah Records in 1977 that resulted in two singles: "Body Shop" and "Moving in Circles." In 1980, he cut his first tune with the word "shag" in it; "Shag With Me" trailed by "Let’s Have a Party" came out on Woodshed Records, the last title dropping in 1982. Two DJ-only singles for CC Records followed and then singles on Ripete and Compleat took him through 1985. Clifford's recordings got played in regions where he reigned as an entertainer of note and kept him busy. He never stopped recording; releasing music, contributing backing vocals on others albums, and doing commercials into the millennium. Collectables Records outdid themselves in 1995 by releasing a 20-song compilation CD of Curry's recordings, many from the numerous one-off labels he recorded for; Alpaloosa Records issued Clifford's Blues: The Provider in 1996.

Richard Ridley & Paul Granger

Richard Ridley was born at Dilston Hall, near Corbridge. Had piano lessons, then played cornet in Prudhoe High School Brass Band, Ovington Brass Band & Durham Constabulary Band. He took up guitar and singer/songwriting at the age of 15. He had a career as an Engineer.

He played in Equinox folk band with Jimmy (jiva) Towler, Raymond Greenoaken and Paul Granger. When the same lineup switched to Prog Rock they changed their name to Xonique (anagram of Equinox). Sadly they failed to blast the Prog Rock world with their ambitious musical project ‘After The Bomb’. Richard went on to form Folk Rock band ‘Devils Water’ with Raymond Greenoaken. Their recently released album ‘Treading The Marches’ was produced by ex Steeleye Span bassman Rick Kemp.

Richard continues to work on various musical projects, currently playing in Americana, Bluegrass, Roots band ‘Devilswater’,

Paul Granger was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and he was taught to play the piano by his father while at primary school. He went to St Cuthbert's Grammar School in Newcastle (a contemporary of Sting), where he was able to include Music in his studies and obtained a grade A at A-level. He subsequently obtained a degree in Physics from Newcastle University and an MSc in Meteorology from Reading University and has worked at several companies and locations as an IT Software Developer.

He has sung bass in various church choirs over the years and also played in rock bands occasionally. In the late 1970s he wrote and demoed songs with his friend Richard Robinson. They never had any commercial success, although they had a song signed with EMI which was never used.

He was part of a prog rock band called Xonique. This was a keyboards, guitars and percussion outfit influenced by progressive rock bands like Emerson, Lake & Palmer. They wrote a rock concept album in 1980 entitled "After The Bomb", although again there was no commercial interest. Paul later played in a couple of electronic bands and a rock gospel band in the 1980s.

Following a job-related move to Yorkshire in 2003, he joined St Austin's Church Choir in Wakefield and was inspired to start writing music for the choir in late 2006 with a piece to celebrate the refurbishment of the Church's medieval statue of Saint Anne. He has since written a Mass setting, a number of Christmas carols and various other pieces. Several of these have been used in Church services at St Austin's.

Paul continues to work on various musical projects, both with St Austin’s Choir and with Richard Ridley.

Sea Spirit

Richard Ridley &  Paul Granger

The songs on this album reflect a fusion of folk, classical and progressive rock styles, as brought together by two songwriter/composers from differing musical backgrounds. Richard Ridley and Paul Granger have worked together in North-East England over many years as songwriters and in bands and this album combines works from their past and present, reworked as a studio album using selected guest musicians.

The album is available in full or by individual tracks on CD Baby, iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Google and others.

'My Kinda Christmas' is the story of a couple with a December dilemma; they each have a different idea about where to spend their Christmas holiday. Julia prefers to stay home and have a traditional celebration. Norm dreams of jetting off to a tropical paradise for a vacation. As they each make their case to the other, they soon discover that they are at an impasse. So, for the sake of the relationship (and unbeknownst to the other), each decides to acquiesce, as she makes travel plans, and he invites family to the house. This creates even more confusion for the couple, who ultimately decide that where they spend Christmas is not nearly as important as how they spend it -- together.
Norm Adams directed and produced the accompanying music video for 'My Kinda Christmas'.

Julia Robertson achieved fame in the 90’s, as part of the female R&B group Ex-Girlfriend. The New York-based quartet, comprised of Julia, Tisha Hunter, Monica Boyd and Stacy Francis (X Factor USA season one finalist, and R&B Divas L.A. season three) was formed by the legendary R&B group Full Force, whose production credits include chart-toppers by Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam and Backstreet Boys. Signed to Warner/Reprise Records, Ex- Girlfriend’s debut album, “X Marks the Spot”, yielded the hit singles “Why Can’t You Come Home?” (Billboard #5 U.S. R&B), and “You (You’re The One For Me)”. The girls toured the world in support of the album, opening for superstars such as R. Kelly and Prince. A year later, they contributed the song “Colorless Love” to the soundtrack of the film Zebrahead. After a brief hiatus, Julia and Ex-Girlfriend returned with their sophomore offering, “It’s A Woman Thang”, which included the radio favorite, “X In Your Sex”.
Currently, Julia is putting the finishing touches on her debut solo album, “The Audio-biography of Julia Robertson”. The album brilliantly showcases her transformation from R&B ingĂ©nue, into a mature artist, firmly in control of her own destiny.

Norm Adams is a singer-songwriter, whose creative style has often drawn comparisons to Babyface, Ne-Yo and Bruno Mars. He began his professional music career as the lead singer of an R&B group called Mass Appeal. Although widespread commercial success eluded the trio, a dance remix of their independent record “A Little Bit of Heaven” (featuring Kima from the female R&B group Total), made the rounds on the club scene. This led to radio airplay and a review in Billboard. The exposure opened the doors to a whole new world for Norm, as he traveled to Japan, and performed nightly in front of wildly enthusiastic crowds. His debut solo album, “This Is My Time”, was produced by Grammy-nominated producers Ric Zivic and Ted Wender, and included the Top 10 indie record, “Love Me” (MWR UK #7), and the dance floor filler “Stretch Ya Neck”, whose video was designated by Yahoo as a “must see” .
