Miles Recommends

Born in Brisbane, founded in the gutters of Bangkok, and now jamming in Melbourne, Miles Recommends is the Australian Folk Rock singer-songwriting and music production duo of Des Atkinson and Lou Cadell.

Miles Recommends draw from, and blend together, a wide range of pop, rock, folk, blues, country and jazz influences; layering guitars, piano, organ, drums, French horn, strings and harmonies as a backdrop to their dissection of social norms. In a life full of contradictions, Miles Recommends likes to ponder some of the bigger questions.

'Extended Play' is the debut, self-produced EP from Miles Recommends. It was officially released on February 5, 2017 and the duo are currently working on their follow-up release due out in mid 2017.
Miles Recommends are currently enjoying solid airplay of the first singles of their EP 'Crazy House' and 'Darkness' on community radio stations across Australia.

Welcome to the debut, self-produced EP (ExtendedPlay) from Australian folk-rock band Miles Recommends!

Band Bio
Born in Brisbane, founded in the gutters of Bangkok, and now jamming in Melbourne, Miles Recommends is the independent Australian singer-songwriting and music production duo of Des Atkinson and Lou Cadell

Miles Recommends draws from, and blends together, a wide range of indie/alternate pop, rock, folk, country and blues influences; layering guitars, piano, organ, drums, French horn, strings and harmonies as a backdrop to our dissection of social norms.

In a life full of contradictions, Miles Recommends likes to ponder some of the bigger questions.

Our influences include: The Eels, Fleetwood Mac, The White Stripes, Jack Johnson, Laura Branigan, The Doors, Muse, Josh Rouse, Johnny Cash, The Mountain Goats, Richard Ashcroft, The Mamas & The Papas, OK Go, The Beautiful Girls, Bob Dylan, Boni Tyler, and Bright Eyes.

But who is Miles? A long, long time ago, people ventured into video stores for the latest and greatest films. Back then it wasn’t uncommon for those working in these stores to make suggestions to those who weren’t looking for the ordinary.

Though we never knew him outside of those four walls, a guy named Miles was our go-to dude for recommending what we should take home and we’ll be darned if he didn’t always choose things that made us happy!

Miles Recommends records, mixes, produces and releases their music under their independent production label Flapjack Industry Records.

Miles Recommends' debut EP 'Extended Play' was released on February 5, 2017, which is currently enjoying airplay for singles 'Crazy House' and 'Darkness' across Australian radio stations.

About EP Tracks

1. Crazy House (alternative/indie rock): A cry for sanity in a life ruled by traditionalist masters and the inane desires of their subjects. Blistering piano and haunting harmonies awaken this Frankenstein-bastard as it drunkenly churns and waltzes through to a climax and post-mortem that questions a life lived within rank and file.

2. Burn Through (indie pop): Heartfelt defiance wrapped in the steadfast yet gentle embraces of acoustic guitar, piano,  French horn and cello, Burn Through stakes a claim on the road less travelled whilst maintaining an urgent call for eternal vigilance.

3. Darkness (alternative/indie rock): A greasy web of pounding drums, plastic bass, winding organ and striking piano ensnare and carry the folksy introduction of Darkness off into a hurricane of desperate and depressive rage.

4. Just Wanted You (indie folk/pop): With a milky warm lead vocal subtly accompanied by acoustic guitar and stripped-backed piano, Just Wanted You may sound like just another love song. And yet. Despite its hopeful sound, this exploration of youthful romance remains distracted by the trivialities of popular culture.

5.  Lonely People (indie pop): A bright and peppy party song about conspicuous consumption, navel-gazing and hyper-globalisation?! Lonely People has all the boppy clapping, chanting, and toe-tapping you could possibly want.  Just try not to sing along with this ironically catchy number!
